Areas of activity

Marijampolė Municipality Educational Psychological Service (hereinafter – the Service) is a budgetary Marijampolė Municipality educational aid institution with legal personality, established by the decision of the Marijampolė Municipality Council as of 1 January 2004. Its activities are based on the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania, the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Laws on Education of the Republic of Lithuania and other laws of the Republic of Lithuania, the resolutions of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania, other legal acts, the decisions of the Marijampole Municipal Council, the ordinances of the Mayor, the orders of the Director of the Administration, and the Regulations.
  • The purpose of the Service is to identify the personality and educational problems of a pupil/child, to assess the special educational needs of a pupil/child and to determine the level of such needs, to prescribe special education, to provide educational assistance to pupils/children, to coordinate such assistance and, in individual cases (where the Office has been delegated to the Office by the executive authority of the municipality), to provide psychological assistance to teachers or other employees of an educational institution who have been subjected to violence or abuse at an educational institution.

Tasks of the Service

  • To assess a person’s special educational needs, psychological, personality and developmental problems as early as possible, and to help solve them.
  • To strengthen the capacity of schools, teachers and parents/guardians to educate persons with special educational needs, psychological, personality and developmental problems, and to form positive attitudes towards them.
  • To help schools ensure quality education for pupils with special educational needs, psychological, personality and developmental problems, and to provide information, expert and consultative support.
  • To develop positive attitudes in society towards people with psychological problems and special educational needs and to contribute to the prevention of these problems.
